Our previous post on the choice of SQE over LPC has created a debate. Some people feel that the SQE route is as expensive as LPC after factoring in the SQE prep course.
However, it should be noted that for law grads, they can self-study SQE1 without doing a prep course because their LLB covered 60-80% of SQE1 if they chose their modules wisely. All they need is good study materials which cost only a few hundred quid.
What you learn in SQE2 is somewhat similar to LPC:
Advocacy: Plan and conduct advocacy before a judge.
Case and matter analysis: Present a legal analysis of a case in a report and deliver advice tailored to the client's needs.
Interviewing: Plan and conduct client interviews, and produce attendance notes with initial legal analysis.
Legal writing: Conduct legal research from various resources and produce a written report.
Legal drafting: Produce a clear and accurate letter or email as a solicitor applying the law in relation to the matter.
Legal research: Produce a piece of drafting using a precedent, or amending a document.
But if you only do an SQE2 prep course (around £2800), it's still a lot cheaper than LPC.
But if you choose an LLM in SQE Prep, they price it on par with LPC, so choose wisely.
