Court of Justice of the European Union Traineeships

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) offers paid traineeships to a limited number of individuals each year. These traineeships are available in the chambers of Members of the Court of Justice and the General Court of the European Union, as well as in the administrative departments of the Court.

Traineeship periods: There are two traineeship periods available. Traineeships in the Members' chambers span from March to July and from September to the end of February. Traineeships in the administrative departments run from October to the end of February.

Eligibility criteria: Applicants should hold a degree in law, political sciences, economics, or a related field. For traineeships in the Interpretation Directorate, applicants should have a diploma in conference interpreting. Additionally, applicants must have a thorough knowledge of one official language of the European Union and a good knowledge of another official language. Proficiency in French is desirable due to the working environment.

Application process: Interested candidates should apply through the EU CV Online application within the specified deadlines. The CV Online application system allows candidates to create and submit their applications electronically.

Previous traineeships: Applicants should not have previously undertaken a traineeship, whether paid or unpaid, in another institution or body of the European Union. This requirement aims to ensure opportunities for new trainees to gain valuable experience.

Monthly grant and travel contribution: Selected trainees receive a monthly grant of €1468. Additionally, trainees residing 200km or more from the seat of the CJEU are provided a contribution of €150 towards their travel costs.

Tax regime: Traineeships at the CJEU are not subject to the tax regime applicable to officials and other agents of the European Union. This means that trainees are not subject to income tax on their grant.

For the most up-to-date information regarding the CJEU traineeships, including specific deadlines and requirements, it is advisable to refer directly to the CJEU's official website or contact the CJEU for further details.
