Trademark Policy

To further strengthen our brand image as a global leader in legal education, we have consolidated our trademark presence by registering a family of trademarks: UOLUOLLB, and UOLLB First Class Law Notes, collectively known as the UOLLB trademarks. In our commitment to safeguarding our intellectual property rights, we have instituted distinct policies for the UOLLB trademarks, outlined as follows:

UOLLB First Class Law Notes®
We exclusively own all rights, titles, and interests, encompassing all intellectual property rights associated with UOLLB First Class Law Notes. Our proprietary rights extend to the use of both the name and logo, as well as offering products and services under the UOLLB First Class Law Notes trademark. We retain exclusive rights to deploy the name and logo and to provide products and services carrying the UOLLB First Class Law Notes designation. No licence, whether express or implied, is granted to any party for the use of this trademark.

UOLLB®
We exclusively own all rights, titles, and interests, encompassing all intellectual property rights associated with UOLLB. Our proprietary rights extend to the use of both the name and logo, as well as offering products and services under the UOLLB trademark. We retain exclusive rights to deploy the name and logo and to provide products and services carrying the UOLLB designation. No licence, express or implied, is granted to any party for the use of this trademark.

UOL®
We wish to control the use of the UOL trademark to foster a fair and diverse environment for legal education. You are eligible to use the UOL trademark in compliance with our trademark terms only if you are an accredited UK institution. Any other individual or entity does not have the right to rely on our trademark terms in respect of the UOL trademark.

UOL Trademark Terms
We permit all accredited UK institutions to use the UOL trademark without charge and application, provided they comply with our trademark terms. Please carefully review these terms before using the UOL trademark, as they provide clarity regarding permitted and prohibited uses.

1. We reserve the right to modify these terms for the UOL trademark at any time without prior notice. Any amendments will be effective immediately upon being posted on our official website. Your continued use of the UOL trademark constitutes acceptance of the modified terms, and it is advisable to review them regularly.

2. Your use of the UOL trademark is contingent upon your compliance with these terms. By using the UOL trademark, you acknowledge and agree to adhere to these terms. Any unauthorised use or violation of these terms may result in the termination of your rights to use the UOL trademark.

3. Subject to your compliance with these terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid-up, non-transferable, and revocable licence to use the UOL trademark solely for the purposes outlined in these terms and for no other purposes.

4. In accordance with these terms, you are permitted to use the UOL trademark (without the sign ® ) for the purposes of (a) identifying or promoting your institution and programmes in connection with educational and related services; (b) creating promotional materials, including website pages and social media posts, provided that such use is incidental and complies with applicable laws and regulations; and (c) any other use explicitly authorised in writing by the UOL trademark owner.

5. You agree not to (a) use the UOL trademark in a manner that may mislead or deceive the public; (b) employ the UOL trademark in a way that implies approval, endorsement, affiliation, or sponsorship without explicit authorisation; (c) engage in any activities that may compromise the integrity, reputation, or goodwill of the UOL trademark; and (d) claim or imply that you are the owner of the UOL trademark in any way.

6. The UOL trademark must not be used generically. A trademark becomes generic when it is used as a common name for a category of products or services. One way to avoid generic use is to use the UOL trademark as an adjective, for example:

UOL Blog
UOL Case Bank
UOL Graduate Entry Route
UOL Honour Code
UOL International Foundation Programme
UOL International Programmes
UOL Law Modules
UOL Modules
UOL Press
UOL Standard Entry Route
UOL Teaching Centre
UOL Worldwide

7. Because you are not the owner of the UOL trademark, you are not permitted to claim or imply that your products or services are the official UOL products or services or that you are the official provider of such products or services. We reserve all the rights to brand our products and services as the official UOL products and services, such as the official UOL Teaching Centre, the official UOL International Programmes, and the official UOL Blog.

8. This licence does not enable you to claim ownership of the UOL trademark in any way. Any assertion of ownership or proprietary rights in the UOL trademark constitutes an infringement of our trademark rights. If you have found any infringement of our trademarks, please contact us to report the infringement. We will take any action we deem appropriate.

9. All rights, title, and interest in the UOL trademark, including any associated intellectual property rights, are owned and retained by the trademark owner. Any use not expressly authorised by these terms is strictly prohibited. The UOL trademark owner reserves the right to take appropriate legal action to enforce these terms and protect the UOL trademark from unauthorised use.

10. You assume full responsibility and liability for any use of the UOL trademark, including but not limited to any direct or indirect consequences that may arise as a result of such use. We disclaim any and all liability for any outcomes, damages, losses, claims, or legal actions that may arise from your use of the UOL trademark, whether foreseen or unforeseen. By using the UOL trademark, you acknowledge that you do so at your own risk and agree to indemnify us against any potential claims or liabilities related to your use.

11. Your right to use the UOL trademark may be terminated at any time for violation of these terms or for any reason deemed appropriate by the trademark owner. Once your licence is revoked, you must promptly cease using the UOL trademark and remove any associated materials from all public domains. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in legal action by the trademark owner.

The above terms constitute the entire agreement between you and the UOL trademark owner. By using the UOL trademark, you signify your acceptance of these terms. If you do not agree with these terms, please refrain from using the UOL trademark.
