Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam

The Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) is an exam administered by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) that measures a candidate's knowledge and understanding of the professional conduct rules that govern lawyers' ethical behaviour. The MPRE is a two-hour, 60-question multiple-choice test that is offered three times a year at various test centres across the United States.

The MPRE covers a range of topics related to professional responsibility, including conflicts of interest, client confidentiality, and the lawyer-client relationship. The exam is designed to test a candidate's ability to apply the rules of professional conduct in various scenarios that are likely to arise in the practice of law.

The MPRE is required for admission to the bar in most jurisdictions in the United States, including all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The passing score for the MPRE varies by jurisdiction, but is generally around 85 out of a possible 150 points.

The MPRE is typically taken during law school or while studying for the bar exam. Candidates are encouraged to study the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and to review sample questions and practice exams to prepare for the test. The NCBE offers study materials and other resources on its website to help candidates prepare for the MPRE.
