Think Twice before Taking PGDL or GDL

If you are a non-law graduate wishing to become a solicitor, you are strongly advised against enrolling in a PGDL or GDL because you will have to pass the SQE anyway. A university degree in any discipline will qualify you to sit the SQE directly, so you don't need to spend a whopping £12500 for a law conversion course which only includes the following foundation modules:

Company Law
This is a vital module for anyone intending to operate in a commercial field, the syllabus centres on the way the law regulates companies and the facilities that company law offers, such as limited liability and transferability of shares, as well as corresponding burdens such as duties of disclosure and compliance with statutory procedures.

Contract Law
This module introduces you to the principles of contract at common law and in equity and helps you to understand how these principles are applied to agreements.

Criminal Law
This module examines general principles of criminal liability, a range of fatal and non-fatal offences against the person and selected offences against property. It also looks at attempts to commit offences, secondary liability and defences.

English Legal System
This module introduces the English legal system and conveys what is distinctive about the common law approach as a legal methodology.

Equity and Trusts
This module deals with the rules and principles governing the creation and operation of trusts – a particular method of holding property.

EU Law
This module will appeal to students who enjoy public law or who have an interest in public affairs, politics, economics or international relations of the EU.

Land Law
This module centres on the various interests that can exist in land, the principles governing the creation, transfer and extinction of these interests.

Public Law
This module trains you to analyse key issues governing the relation between citizens and the state, including sovereignty and the division of powers between legislature, executive and administration.

Tort Law
This module will introduce you to the organising principles of tort law, such as damage, fault and vicarious liability.

Instead, you can study all these modules by yourself with our PGDL / GDL Law Conversion Package, a cost-effective self-learning package that is carefully designed by our world-class legal educators to teach you all the essential legal concepts you will learn on a PGDL or GDL and prepare you for the SQE1.

Don't bury yourself in debt by borrowing student loans. You can save a lot of money if you make use of our Package, which is equivalent to a law conversion course but only costs £79.99. The interest rate is rising fast. You will end up repaying the loans for decades to come, which will significantly prevent you from reaching your life goals, such as buying a property and raising a family.

If you wish to become a barrister, you will have to endure a PGDL or GDL and then apply for a bar training course. This law conversion course is pretty daunting because you will learn what a 3-year LLB student learns in just several months. Our First Class Law Notes are written in digestible short paragraphs supported with case law, so that students without a legal background will be able to understand difficult legal concepts with ease.
