SQE2 Assessment Schedule

SQE2 is divided into oral and written assessments, each testing a range of legal skills in practical contexts and lasting a total of 5 days. You will have the oral assessments first, over 2 days, to evaluate your ability to interact effectively in real-life legal scenarios. You will then complete the written assessments over 3 days to evaluate your ability to apply legal knowledge and professional skills across a broad range of practice areas.

*Please note that you may complete the written assessments before the oral assessments.

Oral Assessments
The oral assessments take place over two half days. Each day consists of two oral exercises: advocacy, and an attendance note/legal analysis. You will take a total of four oral legal skills assessments.

Day 1
You are assessed on advocacy in the practice area of Dispute Resolution, as well as a client interview and the production of an attendance note/legal analysis in the context of Property Practice. The order in which these assessments are completed may vary for different candidates.

Day 2
You are assessed on advocacy in the practice area of Criminal Litigation, as well as a client interview and the production of an attendance note/legal analysis in the context of Wills and Intestacy, Probate Administration and Practice. The order in which these assessments are completed may vary for different candidates.

Written Assessments
The written assessments are completed over three half days. Each day consists of four written exercises: case and matter analysis, legal drafting, legal research, and legal writing. You will take a total of 12 written legal skills assessments.

Day 3
You will have four written exercises: case and matter analysis, legal drafting, legal research, and legal writing. Two of them will be in the context of Dispute Resolution and two will be in the context of Criminal Litigation. The order in which these assessments are completed may vary for different candidates.

Day 4
You will have four written exercises: case and matter analysis, legal drafting, legal research, and legal writing. Two of them will be in the context of Property Practice and two will be in the context of Wills and Intestacy, Probate Administration and Practice. The order in which these assessments are completed may vary for different candidates.

Day 5
You will have four written exercises: case and matter analysis, legal drafting, legal research, and legal writing. All of them will be in the context of Business Organisations, Rules and Procedures. The order in which these assessments are completed may vary for different candidates.
