Standard Entry Route

The Standard Entry Route is available to those who have finished their secondary education and met the general entry requirements. You will normally study 4 modules each year and a total of 12 modules in 3 years.


First Year: Four Compulsory Level 4 Modules


Contract Law

This module covers the principles and rules that govern legally binding agreements between individuals or entities. Students will study the formation, interpretation, and enforcement of contracts, as well as the remedies available for breach of contract.


Criminal Law

This module explores the fundamental aspects of criminal law, including the definition of crimes, the elements of criminal liability, and various defences. Students will learn about the criminal justice system and the procedures involved in prosecuting and adjudicating criminal offences.


Legal System and Method

This module provides an overview of the legal system, its institutions, and how it operates. Students will gain an understanding of legal research, analysis, and problem-solving methods necessary for studying and practicing law.


Public Law

This module deals with the relationship between the state and individuals or other entities. This module covers constitutional law, administrative law, and other areas related to the exercise of public authority and the protection of individual rights.

Second Year: One Compulsory Level 5 Module


Tort Law

This module focuses on civil wrongs and the remedies available to the injured party. Students will study negligence, strict liability, and intentional torts, as well as the principles governing compensation for harm caused by wrongful actions or omissions.


Second Year: Three Optional Level 5 Modules


Administrative Law

This module delves into the principles that govern the actions and decisions of administrative bodies, such as government agencies. Students will learn about judicial review and the procedures for challenging administrative decisions.


Commercial Law

This module covers legal matters related to business and commerce, including contracts, sales of goods, and commercial transactions. Students will explore the legal aspects of conducting business.


EU Law

This module focuses on the law of the European Union and its impact on member states. Students will learn about the EU's institutions, legal system, and the relationship between EU law and national law.


Family Law

This module deals with legal issues related to family relationships and domestic matters. Students will study marriage, divorce, child custody, adoption, and other family-related legal topics.


International Protection of Human Rights

This module examines the legal framework for protecting human rights at the international level. Students will explore the role of international organisations and treaties in safeguarding human rights globally.


Property Law

Property law covers legal rights and interests in land, real estate, and personal property. Students will learn about property ownership, transfers, and the legal principles governing property disputes.

Third Year: One Compulsory Level 6 Module


Jurisprudence and Legal Theory

This module involves the study of legal philosophy and theories that underpin the law. Students will explore different jurisprudential perspectives and debates about the nature of law and its role in society.


Third Year: Three Optional Level 6 Modules


Company Law

Company law focuses on the legal aspects of corporate entities, including their formation, management, and regulation. Students will study the rights and duties of shareholders, directors, and other company stakeholders.


Conflict of Laws

This module deals with legal issues that arise in cases involving multiple jurisdictions. Students will explore the rules for determining which jurisdiction's laws should apply in cross-border legal disputes.


Criminology

Criminology involves the study of crime, criminal behaviour, and the criminal justice system. Students will examine the causes of crime, crime prevention strategies, and the sociological aspects of criminal behaviour.


Dissertation

The dissertation module allows you to conduct in-depth research on a legal topic of your choice and produce a substantial research paper in 10,000 words demonstrating your research and analytical skills.


Equity and Trusts

Equity and trusts cover the principles and rules related to trusts and equitable remedies. Students will learn about the creation and administration of trusts and how equity complements and supplements the common law.


Evidence

This module focuses on the rules of evidence in legal proceedings. Students will study the admissibility of various types of evidence and the procedures for presenting evidence in court.


Intellectual Property

Intellectual property law covers the legal protection of creations of the mind, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Students will explore the legal framework for safeguarding intellectual property rights.


Introduction to Islamic Law

This module provides an overview of Islamic law, also known as Sharia law. Students will learn about its sources, principles, and application in different legal contexts.


Public International Law

Public international law deals with the legal relations between states and international organisations. Students will study the principles of international law and its role in regulating global affairs.

It is important to note that if you intend to become a barrister in England and Wales, you must study the seven foundation modules for your LLB to become a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) for entry into a bar training course:
